Guy Fiery once said on Food Network about Senor Sisig, “it’s not Asian, it’s not Mexican, it’s Senor Sisig.” By packing Filipino flavors in the ole Mexican fashion, they’ve come up with some mouthwatering, protein packed burritos. My first time visiting trying Senor Sisig was when I had visited a friend in San Francisco in 2021. Ever since then, this spot has always been stuck in my mind. Now that I’ve permanently moved to San Francisco, I get Senor Sisig about once every other week.
There are multiple Senor Sisig locations in the Bay Area. The OG spot in the Mission next to Mission Delores Park, but they also have locations in the Ferry Building, Oakland, and a food truck that serves Senor Sisig in varying locations around San Francisco.
Restaurant Recs
My personal favorite choice is the California Sisig Burrito. As someone who is not from California, the concept of stuffing french fries in burritos is eye-opening. The California Sisig burrito is a traditional California style burrito with your protein of choice (tocino, pork, chicken, or tofu), and stuffed with french fries, cheese, sour cream, guac, and pico. I would highly recommend getting the Tocino as your protein option.
Tocino is a sweetened and cured Filipino pork belly dish with Spanish roots. Tocino is a staple in Filipino households, and I would recommend getting it for that Filipino fusion experience. Otherwise, it’s just a regular California burrito.
I would also recommend getting the “The Senor Sisig Burrito” or the Tosilog Burrito The Senor Sisig Burrito is their signature burrito. It has the same protein options as the California Sisig, but throw in adobo garlic rice, another Filipino staple. Often overshadowed by the “The Senor Sisig Burrito” and the California Sisig, the Tosilog Burrito is the most underrated burrito.
Vibes
I’ve only been to the two San Francisco locations, the one on Valencia in the Mission, and the other one at the Ferry Building. I can’t speak much about the vibes of Ferry Building location, because its just another restaurant in the Ferry Building hall. Just order your burrito and dip.
The vibes at the Valencia location is great. There is outdoor seating outside on Valencia street where you can soak up the energy of the neighborhood. Venturing inside, you’ll find a cozy “courtyard” with semi-outdoor seating and good music. Once you’ve finished lunch, spend the rest of the day at Mission Delores Park, which is only two blocks away.
